Police inspector charged, soldiers released in multi-million dollar drug bust
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldiers detained in last week’s major cocaine seizure in St Andrew have been released after questioning, authorities have confirmed.
However, 51-year-old Martin Walker, a detective inspector of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch who was also arrested during the multi-million-dollar drug bust, has been formally charged in relation to the incident.
Walker was on Saturday charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and trafficking cocaine and conspiracy.
Walker was taken into custody during a coordinated anti-narcotics operation conducted along Moore Street in the Woodford Park area of St Andrew.
Investigators reported that the police inspector was observed in the company of two men near three vehicles parked in close proximity — a blue Toyota Tacoma, a red Kia and a white Step Wagon. All three vehicles were subsequently seized and transported to the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) headquarters for detailed examination.

A search of Walker’s vehicle reportedly revealed a plastic bag containing just over 5.8 kilograms of cocaine, the police said. The drug has an estimated street value of $3.5 million.
Walker is scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
In the meantime, Director of FNID, Superintendent Patrae Rowe, said that the Jamaica Constabulary Force is taking a full enforcement approach to breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
“This arrest demonstrates that the Jamaica Constabulary Force does not exempt individuals from investigation or legal action. FNID will continue efforts to address illicit drugs and firearms, as well as individuals involved in these activities,” said Superintendent Rowe.
The public is urged to report illicit drugs and illegal firearms by contacting FNID at 876-923-6184, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.
