Tropical Battery says building energy solutions model for businesses
AFTER consolidating its solar operations with KAYA Energy Group, Tropical Battery highlighted that the integration marks a strategic shift in how the company delivers renewable energy solutions in Jamaica, which will move beyond equipment supply toward a full life cycle energy system management.
According to the company, it sees this partnership benefiting commercial and residential properties.
The integration formalises a capability that has already been demonstrated locally, positioning Tropical Battery’s renewables arm as a fully integrated energy solutions platform responsible for the design, construction, commissioning, and long-term performance of solar and energy storage systems.
“This is about accountability and longevity,” Tropical Battery Limited Chief Executive Officer Alexander Melville highlighted. “Customers are no longer coordinating multiple vendors or assuming execution risk — they are partnering with a single group that is responsible for system performance over decades, not just installation… So we see our customers wanting one entity that can provide all their energy needs.”
Through the closer alignment of Kaya Energy within the Jamaican market, the release said the group now delivers seamless, end-to-end capabilities spanning engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, and performance monitoring.
These capabilities are already being executed across the island, including the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport programme which involves the deployment of approximately three megawatts of distributed solar systems across more than 20 hospitals and schools, the release added.
The integrated platform, according to the release, has also supported previously completed commercial installations for TotalEnergies and other established Jamaican brands.
Rather than operating as a project-by-project installer, the company said the evolution allows it to deliver and manage portfolios of renewable energy assets over the long term. With an expanding pipeline of commercial and industrial solar projects scheduled for 2026, the structure enables standardised execution, consistent quality control, and long-term asset management, it added.
Execution speed has also improved under the new model, the company said.
For Jamaican businesses, the benefits extend beyond faster installation timelines. Systems are engineered and built to operate reliably over decades, supported by rigorous design standards, disciplined quality assurance processes, and commissioning protocols aligned with international best practices which include levels of quality control not historically common in the local solar market, the company insisted.
The release added that, after installation, customers benefit from long-term service support rooted in Tropical Battery’s established Jamaican presence, inventory depth, and service culture built over more than 75 years.
The company said the integrated approach also supports long-term energy efficiency and cost stability for businesses facing rising electricity costs and ongoing energy uncertainty. By optimising system design, maximising self-consumption, and integrating battery storage where appropriate, customers are better insulated from fuel price volatility and tariff increases, it argued.
“Ultimately, this integration allows businesses to move from short-term savings to predictable, long-term energy economics,” Melville added. “It’s about resilience, performance, and partnering with customers for the full life of their energy assets as Jamaica’s energy landscape continues to evolve.”
