ACP urging wanted men to give up willingly following ‘quiet’ capture of ‘Bloodstain’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Following Monday’s ‘quiet’ capture of Courtney Ashley, one of Jamaica’s most wanted, the head of the Area Four police has warned others being sought to follow suit and give up peacefully.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps urged fugitives to follow the example set by the reputed gang leader, known as ‘Bloodstain’.
“Ashley, when accosted, surrendered peacefully to the police, hence there was no need for any resort to the use of force. Therefore, I would like to use this medium to implore other wanted persons and high-risk targets not to use any force against the security forces when they are being accosted,” ACP Phipps said.
Ashley topped the Area Four police Most Wanted list and was being sought for several murders and multiple other acts of violence.
The alleged leader of the Bottom Marverly Gang was nabbed during an operation in the gated community of Phoenix Park in Portmore, St Catherine.
Reports indicated that around 7:10 pm, members of the St Catherine South Special Operations team accosted Ashley, another man, and a woman at the location.
Ashley and the other man attempted to evade the police but were quickly intercepted and detained with the woman.
All three were taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the premises reportedly led to the seizure of several items, including multiple cellular phones, laptops, a card reader, and a sum of Jamaican and United States currency.
Phipps said the police will be looking at the possibility of prosecuting the female for harbouring a fugitive.
“And at this time, I would like to use this opportunity to implore our citizens not to harbour wanted persons within their premises,” he added.
