Education Ministry mourns lives lost in St Elizabeth/Westmoreland border crash
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Education Minister Senator Dana Morris Dixon is mourning the tragic loss of three children and an adult following a two-vehicle crash on the Crawford to Font Hill main road near the St Elizabeth/Westmoreland border on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Jeneen Dawkins, Antwasia Ledgister, Johnessa Dunkley, and Janelia Dunkley.
“This is a devastating tragedy that has shaken our nation, and particularly our education family,” said Morris Dixon. “We mourn the lives lost and extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, classmates, teachers, and communities who are grieving. The ministry has mobilised its counselling teams to ensure that students and educators receive the emotional support and care they need during this incredibly difficult time.”
The ministry has activated its critical incident response protocols. The ministry’s Guidance and Counselling Unit is also working closely with school administrators to provide grief counselling and psychosocial support to students, teachers and staff within the affected school communities.
Dixon further emphasised the importance of compassion, collective support and road safety awareness as the nation reflects on this tragic loss.
The ministry said it will continue to monitor the situation and stands ready to provide ongoing psychosocial assistance as required.
