So Amazing
From school crush to forever love. (Photo: Jason Whyte)

So Amazing

Love has truly been good to me

Not even one sad day

Or minute have I had since you’ve come my way

I hope you know I’d gladly go

Anywhere you take me.

So Amazing by Luther Vandross

Before the vows and the rings, the love story of Dane Bennett and Janel Anderson was forged in their youth — from high-school sweethearts to devoted lovers. After years of commitment, their bond was sealed in marriage on November 22, 2025, at Bridge Palm Resort in Toll Gate, Clarendon.

Their first meeting was straight out of a movie! The scene? Grade nine at Clarendon College in 2012. Janel, the new girl, transferred into Dane’s class, and the instant their eyes met, his world stopped.

“The first time I saw her, I told myself I was going to win her heart — and once I did, she would be the one for me,” Dane shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).

While more cautious, Janel had a similar impression of him.

“I remembered when I met him, that he was persistent, and unexpectedly warm. I wasn’t ready to commit immediately to him but he was certain,” Janel recalled.

A natural chemistry developed through stolen moments at lunch and in between classes. While Dane’s infectious personality first caught Janel’s attention, it was his genuine, unwavering support for her ambitions that truly cemented their bond.

“No young man had ever pushed me academically the way he did. He believed in me before I believed in myself at the time,” Janel expressed to TSV.

Through graduation and beyond, their commitment never wavered, remaining bound by their shared path and the promise of watching their dreams come true. The ultimate dream took shape on January 18, 2024, when Dane proposed.

“He avoided doing it on my birthday to keep the surprise intact! Unbeknownst to me, he secretly coordinated with the staff of the Yard Bar and Grill — our planned dinner spot — ahead of time. While we were getting ready, he played multiple proposal songs but I still didn’t suspect anything,” Janel said. “When we got to the restaurant, he guided me to a hammock to take a picture. At that exact moment, our song So Amazing by Luther Vandross began to play. I said, ‘Wait, that’s our song!’ When I turned around, Dane dropped to one knee with ring in hand whilst the staff came out with a ‘Will You Marry Me?’ cake, accompanied by fireworks! It was emotional, intimate, and perfect.”

The wedding took place at the Bridge Palm Resort elegantly decorated by the resort’s team with input from the couple.

Looking radiant in a mermaid gown from Helen G Bridal, Janel was escorted up the aisle by dad, Martin Anderson, to Celine Dion’s If That’s What It Takes. With Rev Keith Bulgin guiding proceedings, Dane and Janel exchanged vows, sealing their 13-year journey.

The festivities continued at the reception. Following dinner, moving toasts were offered by family, friends, and even schoolmates, celebrating the newly-weds before they cut their two-tiered vanilla and red velvet cake by Trinity Club.

Janel and Dane’s first dance was a mash-up of So Amazing, It Depends by Chris Brown, and
For My Hand by Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran. With the dance floor officially opened, guests joined the newly-weds to party late into the night, bringing their joyous celebration to a perfect close.

Dane and Janel began their honeymoon at the Grand Palladium Resort in Montego Bay, with plans to finalise the second leg at a later date.
