Racing seek JPL lead in Treasure Beach clash
Racing United could retake the lead in the Jamaica Premier League today when they host Treasure Beach FC in their second-round game set to be played at Stadium East at 3:00 pm.
Despite drawing their last four games, Racing United are still in second place, on 29 points, three behind leaders Montego Bay United (MBU) and two more than Portmore United, both of whom have games on Thursday.
Also today, Dunbeholden FC and Molynes United, both coming off losses, will meet at Dunbeholden Sports Complex and will be hoping to restart a winning run.
Racing, who have faced Mount Pleasant FA twice in their last five outings and have come away with four points, including their 1-1 draw at Drax Hall on Sunday and will hope to beat Treasure Beach for the second time this season after their 4-2 victory in the first round.
Treasure Beach moved out of the relegation zone after their 2-1 win over Molynes on Sunday and will hope to increase the gap between the bottom two teams.
The St Elizabeth-based team have been active in the transfer market and will be confident they can get something from the game and push on from their win on Sunday.
The Treasure Beach defence will have to plan for Racing’s Tajay Grant, who has scored eight times so far and will be expected to lead the attack today.
One point and two places separate ninth placed Dunbeholden FC and 11th placed Molynes, with the two teams alternating wins over their last five meetings with Dunbeholden winning 2-0 in the first round.
Both are coming off losses.
Dunbeholden were edged 1-0 by MBU, ending a long unbeaten run while Molynes were beaten 2-1 by Treasure Beach who had lost their previous four games.
Dunbeholden, who have played 13 games have the best defensive record, allowing just six goals so far but also have only scored nine, also the lowest, at the other end of the field.
Molynes have scored six times in their last four games and will hope that the form between the teams will continue and they will get all three points today.
