Kranium’s Nobody Has to Know is now gold in the United Kingdom
After racking up a platinum certification in Canada in 2021 and gold in the United States in 2019, Nobody Has to Know, the breakthrough hit by singer Kranium, has hit the gold mark in the United Kingdom.
The gold certification was issued by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) on Friday, January 16. The certification commemorated sales and streaming figures exceeding 400,000 units.
Nobody Has to Know, which was released in 2013, scaled the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart in 2015, peaking at #44. The song was produced by Havendale raised Lamar ‘Lala’ Reynolds, a past student of Jamaica College.
In a previous interview with Observer Online, Kranium spoke about the success of Nobody Has to Know.
“I mean, it’s been a good ride. Dancehall music, it works when it’s done properly, and sometimes it takes longer. It [the song’s success] just shows that if we support the music, these are the things that happen,” said Kranium.
The artiste shared that he knew the song would have been a hit.
“I was 100 per cent sure that it would’ve been a hit. Some people do music for music, but I do music for a cause. I’m representing dancehall music overseas. When Nobody Has to Know came out, my dream was to make a song that a dancehall artiste can do from America. Not every song works, but I’ve never in my life focused on more than one song at a time,” Kranium disclosed.
The St James-born artiste whose real name is Kemar Donaldson, is the nephew of singjay Screwdriver, who had a hit song during the late 1980s with Sharon.
