Local-bred Dashallday shines in debut run
Trainer Anthony “Baba” Nunes was caught off guard by Dashallday’s emphatic run on Saturday, January 10, 2026, but believes the three-year-old bay colt has a bright future ahead.
Ridden by Linton Steadman, Dashallday (Aveenu Malcainu — Runallday) came from behind runners to edge out stablemate Exceeding Beyond (Delroy Beharie) by a neck in a maiden special weight event over 5 furlongs (1,000m) round, clocking 1:01.3 (25.0 x 49.0).
“He is a decent horse. I think he was very fortunate to win, the better horse ran second but he [Dashallday] is a nice local bred and he will win some races,” Nunes told the Jamaica Observer’s
The Supreme Racing Guide.
“I am surprised by the victory because I had expected the favourite [Exceeding Beyond] to win but I thought he [Dashallday] was the next best horse in the race, and you know in horse racing nothing guarantee and so if Exceeding Beyond didn’t win, I knew he would more than likely had a shot of winning,” Nunes added.
Dashallday trailed the leaders early, sitting off the pace as Exceeding Beyond led the way, followed by Mulligan Man (Shane Ellis) and Blythwood (Joy Haynes) going into the half-mile (800m) turn. Dashallday then hugged the inside rail, cut the turn into the lane, and exploded down the stretch, powering past Exceeding Beyond for the win. Mulligan Man finished third.
When asked about Dashallday’s possible participation in the upcoming Classic series of races, Nunes was very guarded in his response.
“Early days yet for me to really tell that,” Nunes said.
He added: “His sister won a mile but she was pretty ordinary. His mom didn’t but he is bred by
Aveenu Malcainu who is proving to be a very nice stallion as Linguist’s father who won the Jamaica Oaks and so you will never know. It is still early days so I can’t really stick my neck out yet.”
