Market Bag: Mixed basket for food prices in Linstead
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – It’s a mixed bag for food prices this weekend as the costs of some items are up while others are down at the Linstead Market in St Catherine.
Tomato, carrot and cabbage are among the food items fetching lower prices this week compared to last week at the Coronation Market in Kingston. At Linstead on Thursday, tomatoes were going for $400 a pound compared to $600 at ‘Curry’ last week; carrot as low as $100, down $50 from a week earlier; and cabbage for $150, which is $100 less than what it fetched at the Kingston market last weekend.
In the meantime, escallion, lettuce and Scotch bonnet pepper are among the items fetching higher prices, at $300, $1,000 and $800 a pound respectively.
This week, host Carlysia Ramdeen welcomed a special guest in young poultry farmer Cleo Jones.
Tune in to an all-new Market Bag.
