Skip Marley scores 3rd NAACP Image Award nom
...new music, album coming
Skip Marley earns his third National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Award nomination as his 2025 release In Our Sight received a nod in the category Outstanding International Song.
In Our Sight will compete with Tyla’s Is It, Love by Burna Boy, With You by Davido featuring Omah Lay, and You 4 Me by Tiwa Savage.
On Wednesday, Marley, a Grammy nominee in 2021, spoke exclusively to the Jamaica Observer about the NAACP Image Award nomination.
“I give thanks for the recognition. Being acknowledged for my music in any respect is always an honour, and a nomination by NAACP is especially meaningful because they celebrate music that speaks to culture, community, and purpose. In Our Sight is a song about awareness and responsibility, seeing what’s happening around us and choosing unity over division. To have that message acknowledged on an international level means a lot to me,” said Marley, who also added, “The inspiration came from observing the times we’re living in. We wanted to create a song that spreads the message of strength, unity, and upliftment of the people. All things are possible through the powers of the Most High.”
In Our Sight was produced by Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum-selling producer Dwayne “Supa Dups” Chin-Quee.
The song peaked at #2 on the New York Reggae chart last year, spending 15 weeks on the chart.
Skip Marley’s previous NAACP Image Award nominations were Outstanding New Artiste (2021) and Outstanding International Song – Close (2025).
In 2020 he released the EP Higher Place, which contained the multi-charting Billboard #1 hit
Slow Down featuring R&B singer H.E.R. The album was nominated for a Best Reggae Album Grammy Award and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Marley says new music is on the way.
“I’ve been in a really creative space lately and working on a lot of new music. I’m looking forward to sharing a new song and music video in February that is especially meaningful to me. And an album later this year,” he disclosed.
Rapper Kendrick Lamar is the leading nominee in the music categories of the 57th NAACP Image Awards with six nominations. Cardi B and Leon Thomas each received four nods, while Doechii and Teyana Taylor tied with three nominations each.
Most of the awards will be handed out on Saturday, February 28 at the Pasedena Civic Centre in California. The awards will air on BET.
