Westmoreland man charged with arson
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica— A Westmoreland man has been charged with arson following an incident in his community on Tuesday, January 13.
He has been identified as 39-year-old Jason Hinds of Smithfield district, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 10:00 am, Hinds entered a neighbour’s yard while carrying a container with a liquid substance believed to be gasoline.
The substance was reportedly poured under a window of the dwelling and set ablaze, causing damage to the window, surrounding boards, and a curtain.
The fire was extinguished shortly after.
The matter was reported to the police, and the scene was processed.
Hinds was later arrested during an operation on Barracks Road in the parish later that same day.
