X, formerly Twitter, is down

X, formerly Twitter, is currently down in what appears to be a major outage.

The disruption appears to be affecting both web-based and mobile users.

Checks to tracking website Down Detector showed a huge spike in reports of problems at X at around 10:00 am.

The cause of the outage is unclear at this time.
