Domino boss expects intense competition as seniors vie for glory
THE National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB)/National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSC) domino tournament has reached the regional stages, with contests heating up across the island.
NADB President Humber Davis said he expects fair play and intense competition as teams in the various regions vie for top spot.
“We expect a high level of sportsmanship and intense competition as the teams battle it out for a chance to advance to the finals,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
Region three — comprising Kingston, St Thomas, Portland, and St Mary — will compete at Lynch Park in Buff Bay on Tuesday, January 20.
The schedule includes Portland playing St Thomas, and Kingston posing off with St Mary in the straight-knockout games, with the winners advancing to the final and the losers playing for third place.
Davis emphasised the importance of the tournament.
“This tournament is a testament to the enduring spirit of our senior citizens and the domino community. We’re proud to showcase their skills and passion for the game,” he said.
Davis also expressed confidence in the tournament’s growth.
“The growth of this tournament is a direct result of the dedication of the NCSC and the unwavering support of domino enthusiasts nationwide. We’re excited to see the tournament continue to thrive and bring people together,” he ended.
Region one consists of Westmoreland, St James, Trelawny, St Ann, and Hanover. Region two is made up of St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester and St Elizabeth. Both regions will be contested next month.
The winners of the regional competitions will advance to the national grand finale during which they will compete for the coveted title.
With the NABD’s commitment to promoting dominoes and community engagement, Davis affirmed this tournament is sure to leave a lasting impact on Jamaican sports and culture.
“The tournament has seen participation from various age groups, with the senior citizens showcasing their skills and sportsmanship. The NADB is proud of the tournament’s growth and looks forward to many more successful years,” Davis stated.
