McKenzie hails Adam Stewart, private sector support for Trelawny Infirmary temporary facility
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Minister of Local Government and Community Development, Desmond McKenzie, has commended Sandals Resorts International Executive Chairman, Adam Stewart, for donating four air-conditioning units to support the temporary relocation of residents of the Trelawny Infirmary.
The air-conditioning units will be installed in prefabricated container units that are currently being set up to temporarily house residents of the facility. Work is now underway on the project, marking the first time the Government’s container unit solution is being implemented for an infirmary.
McKenzie made the remarks during a tour of the construction site last week, where he expressed appreciation for the role of the private sector in advancing the initiative.
“Now, there are a number of private-sector interests that have helped to make this possible, and I want to say, first of all, thanks to Adam Stewart from the Sandals Group of Companies. They have donated four air-conditioning units,” McKenzie said.
He also lauded Roy Lafayette of Geddes Refrigeration for contributing air-conditioning units for all wards to be established at the temporary facility.
“And to Roy Lafayette from Geddes Refrigeration, who has also provided air-conditioned units for wards that will be put down here at this new facility,” the minister added.
McKenzie said he was looking forward to the completion of the project and indicated that further site visits would be made to monitor progress ahead of the official opening.
“So we’re looking forward to the completion of the project, and we will be back, not to open yet, but just to see where we are in terms of how advanced the works are. And then, when that big day comes, all of us will be happy,” he said.
