ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Portmore Community College (PCC) has appointed long-time educator Reverend Dr Austin Wright as the new principal of the institution.
The board of directors of PCC made the announcement in a statement on Monday.
Wright has a varied background in education and has served as principal at several Jamaican institutions, including Mount James All-Age School, Greenwich All-Age School, Constant Spring Primary and Junior High School, and, for over 16 years, as Principal of José Martí Technical High School.
His professional career also includes roles as an education officer at the Ministry of Education and lecturer at St Joseph’s Teachers’ College, The Mico University College and the International University of the Caribbean.
He has also served for more than 27 years as chief external assessor for teacher education.
PCC noted that Wright is certified by the National College for Educational Leadership (NCEL).
It also cited his numerous awards, including the Golden Torch Award from the Jamaica Teachers’ Association for 38 years of exemplary service.
Donmayne Gyles, chairman of the board, expressed his confidence in Wright’s appointment, emphasising that Dr Wright’s extensive experience and values-driven leadership align strongly with the college’s mission.
“We are confident that Dr Wright’s vision, experience and servant-leadership approach will further strengthen Portmore Community College and advance its mission of providing equal educational opportunities,” Gyles stated.
