Leon Bailey back at Villa, recalled from loan at Roma
Reggae Boy Leon Bailey is on his way back to Aston Villa, ending his injury-hit loan spell with Roma, his agent and manager Craig Butler confirmed to the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old Bailey was loaned to Italian club Roma in the summer but injuries plagued his stint there, and Butler believes a return to England was the best option.
“Yes, I spoke to Villa and to Leon (Bailey) and the coach as well,” Butler told the Jamaica Observer.
“Leon believes a return to the club he has done so much for and them for him is best if we are to see the quality performances and understanding Leon displayed before,” Butler pointed out.
“We predicated the opportunity at Roma, but it was just not the right fit in philosophy at this particular time. We appreciate Roma and look forward to a positive return to the Premier League for Leon and his beloved fans at Aston Villa,” he added.
Bailey, who has scored seven goals for Jamaica from 39 games, signed a new contract with Villa in 2024 that runs until 2027.
Bailey has a reported 24 goals from 144 games with Aston Villa and with the club challenging for the Premier League title, sitting third on 43 points, just seven behind leaders Arsenal, coach Unai Emery will see his attacking options increase with the Jamaican.
