Cavalier SC, MBU score five goals each in JPL wins
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending champions Cavalier Soccer Club (SC) and leaders Montego Bay United both scored five goals in wins over Dunbeholden FC and Spanish Town Police Football Club (FC) respectively, in their second round Jamaica Premier League games played on Wednesday.
Cavalier SC showed little rust after a break as they routed Dunbeholden FC 5-1 at Stadium East after Montego Bay United ran by Spanish Town Police FC 5-0 at Royal Lakes Complex.
It was the biggest wins for either team this season and saw Montego Bay United increase their lead to six points, while Cavalier SC took over fourth place.
Montego Bay United are on 39 points, followed by Racing United- 33, Portmore United- 31 and Cavalier SC are on 26 points.
Cavalier SC scored four times in the second half as Dunbeholden FC also went down to their heaviest defeat after they had only allowed eight goals in their previous 15 games.
Cavalier SC led 1-0 at half time, thanks to a 35th minute goal from Kwayne Thompson, heading the ball into the goal from a melee.
Dwayne Allen doubled the lead in the 60th minute with a spectacular shot from about 23 yards out, the ball looping over the head of goalkeeper Jean-Luke Wilmott.
Odane Wilberforce, who was subbed on in the 67th minute, made the scores 3-0 in the 74th minute before an own goal in the 81st minute took it to 4-0.
Dunbeholden pulled a goal back when Stephen Barnett converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute but Jerome McCleary restored Cavalier SC’s four-goal lead with a goal in time added.
Earlier in the day, Jourdain Fletcher scored a double to take back sole leadership in the scoring race with 11 goals.
Deverow McKenzie, Dwight Merrick and Jahmari Clarke also got on the score sheet as MBU opened up a six-point lead at the top of the tables, going to 39, followed by Racing United on 33, Portmore United, 31, while defending champions Cavalier SC moved into fourth place on 26 points after beating Dunbeholden FC 5-1 at Stadium East.
MBU’s McKenzie, who missed the start of the season, opened the scoring in the 19th minute when he was left all alone at the far left post and volleyed home a cross from the right side.
Fletcher got his first in the 22nd minute when his left footer from outside the area beat goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel.
Clarke, who started the season scoring in his first three games, scored his fourth of the season and first since September 2025, when he was first to react to a block by Samuel and scored from close range in the 60th minute.
Merrick, who was away with the national team on Sunday, made it 4-0 when he swept home a ball from the edge of the six- yard box in the 64th minute before Fletcher got his second in the 72nd minute.
