Gilbert praises ‘much better’ MoBay after commanding win
Montego Bay United Head Coach Xavier Gilbert was pleased with his team’s 5-0 trouncing of last-placed Spanish Town Police FC in the Jamaica Premier League second-round game played at Royal Lakes in St Catherine on Wednesday.
After the frustrating goalless draw against Portmore United at home on Sunday, Montego Bay recorded their largest win margin this season. They were led by a brace from Jourdain Fletcher who reclaimed the lead in the golden boot race, taking his tally to 11 goals.
Deverow McKenzie, Dwight Merrick and Jahmari Clarke also got on the scoresheet as Montego Bay, on 39 points, opened up a six-point lead at the top of the table.
They are followed by Racing United (33 points), Portmore United (31) and defending champions Cavalier FC (26),who moved into fourth place after defeating Dunbeholden FC 5-1 at Stadium East.
“Today was much better — the finishing, we were scoring goals and getting five at this level is always good,” Gilbert told the Jamaica Observer after the match.
“[We were able to] control the tempo, our movement was good and we continue to create scoring chances.”
