Lannaman’s, Emmanuel set to battle for Alberga Cup
LANNAMAN’S Prep and Emmanuel Christian Academy (ECA) will contest the final of the JISA/Canopy Insurance Alberga Cup National Under-12 football competition, after battling to similar 1-0 victories in their respective semi-finals on Wednesday.
The final, which will take place at 11:30 am at American International School of Kingston (AISK) on Saturday, is a repeat of the 2022 finale when Lannaman’s blanked then defending champions ECA 2-0 to lift what has been their last title to date. This is also ECA’s first trip back to the championship game since then.
Lannaman’s booked their spot with a close 1-0 win over last year’s champions Sts Peter and Paul Prep, in what was an exciting clash at Liberty Academy on Wednesday.
It was Lannaman’s second-consecutive win over the “Mighty Saints” in a matter of days, after a 2-0 triumph in the quarter-final group stage a week earlier.
Sts Peter and Paul, however, will end the season with a title after defeating Lannaman’s in the Henriques Cup final in December.
In the other semi-final, which was also played at Liberty Academy, ECA edged Hillel Academy by a similar 1-0 margin to deny the Cherry Gardens-based school a return to the final, after their trip in 2023.
ECA will enter Saturday’s final in top form, having not dropped a point since the start of the year.
In Saturday’s curtain-raiser Sts Peter and Paul will play Hillel Academy in the third-place play-off starting at 10:00 am.
Hillel, which also finished third in the Henriques Cup knockout competition, will be looking for a similar finish in the league in what would be their highest-place finish since 2023.
Meanwhile, Sts Peter and Paul will be looking to end their campaign on a high by adding a podium finish to their knockout trophy success.
