‘I Love Hip Hop’ connects with music fans in Kingston party scene
Rap fans in Kingston are raving about ‘I Love Hip Hop’, a weekly event that celebrates the depth, beauty, and diversity of hip hop culture.
It is held every Thursday at the Jangas Soundbar in New Kingston.
On any given Thursday, patrons marinate in the rhythms of the music, revel in the brilliance of 1990s emcees and rap legends, and celebrate the cool hip hop moves of yesterday.
You can see hip hop heads doing the “Crank That (Soulja Boy)”, “Walk It Out,” and “The Wobble” from the 2000s alongside choreographed line dances like the “Cha Cha Slide”, or showing off moves like the “Stanky Legg,” and “Lean Back”.
“I Love Hip Hop celebrates hip-hop culture, nostalgia, and community, each event has helped carry forward the message that love, respect, and unity exists within this shared space,” organiser Tricia Stone told Observer Online.

I Love Hip Hop’ was officially launched on December 4, 2025, and has continued every Thursday night at Jangas Sound Bar.
Organised by Stone in collaboration with Starcore Productions, I Love Hip Hop was “created out of a deep-rooted passion for hip-hop and its lasting cultural impact,” Stone said.
“My love for hip-hop runs deep, and it felt only fitting to create a space where that passion could be shared,” Stone said.
“I Love Hip Hop is more than an event — it’s a movement rooted in culture, connection, and evolution,” she added.
The series offers a curated experience that blends classic hip-hop sounds with a modern nightlife atmosphere, attracting a diverse and loyal audience week after week.
It features carefully selected DJs, a nostalgic yet high-energy soundtrack, and a vibrant crowd that appreciates the authenticity of hip-hop culture. Since its launch, I Love Hip Hop has steadily grown into a recognisable brand within Kingston’s nightlife scene.
While the series currently calls Jangas Soundbar home, I Love Hip Hop is designed to grow and evolve, with an expanding vision that reflects the culture it represents, Stone said.

Since its launch, it has featured a strong lineup of high-energy DJs, including Marc Chin of CopperShot, DJ Narity, and DJ Delano, each bringing their own signature sound to the series.
January has been nothing short of a movie, with standout appearances from Sanjay and Delano, who returns by popular demand — this time with a special twist as he shares the stage with his son, DJ 3D. Rounding out the month, the series welcomes Kevi Kinetic, an emerging force taking the industry by storm, alongside resident DJ Bishop (Starcore Productions), who continues to anchor the sound of I Love Hip Hop.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, Stone said, noting that patrons consistently talk about the energy, the music selection, and the overall vibe. Many have made I Love Hip Hop part of their weekly routine, which speaks volumes about the connection the promoters are building.
“We’re seeing a solid mix of regulars and new patrons each Thursday, which is very encouraging for a young but fast-growing series,” Stone said.
