Smith beats Clayton twins, Thompson third in Sweden over 60m
Jonielle Smith stunned twins Tina and Tia Clayton while Kishane Thompson was beaten into third spot in the 60m at the BAUHAUS Gala Indoor in Sweden on Thursday.
Smith, who was second to Tia Clayton last Saturday at the Fuller-Anderson meet, showed her intentions early, winning her heat in a track record 7.17.
Both Tia and Tina Clayton got byes to the final, but they were upstaged by Smith, who lowered the track record further, stopping the clock at 7.12.
The twins were almost inseparable as both clocked 7.14, but Tina was given the edge for second over Tia in third.
It was a clean sweep by the Jamaicans representing MVP, as home girl Julia Henriksson of Sweden was fourth in 7.31.
In the men’s section, Jamaican Olympic and World Championship 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson was beaten into third spot in the men’s 60m. The race was won by Romell Glave of Great Britain in a new record of 6.51 seconds. His countryman Jeremiah Azu was second in 6.54, with Yhompson third in 6.56.
Jamaica’s second male entrant, Rohan Watson, was seventh with a season’s best 6.64.
