Maitland attorney ‘surprised’ by verdict, says appeal likely
KINGSTON, Jamaica — While expressing surprise at the guilty verdict handed down Thursday against his client, Constable Noel Maitland, defence attorney Christopher Townsend says there is likely to be an appeal.
Maitland was found guilty of murder and preventing the lawful burial of a corpse in relation to the July 12, 2022, disappearance of his girlfriend Donna-Lee Donaldson.

“Certainly we’re a bit surprised by the verdict, but it is the verdict and it is what it is, of course there is always the Court of Appeal so on to the next level,” Townsend told Observer Online.
Acknowledging that his client was very teary-eyed following the verdict, Townsend said: “He knows he is innocent and we have to take another opportunity to seek justice at the Court of Appeal.”
Townsend added that he had had a strong feeling that whatever way the verdict went there would have been an appeal.
“I don’t want to say anything too much yet but certainly we are concerned about how some of the issues were dealt with,” Townsend said.
