Chizz Chizem tackles relationship issues on Only You and Nite Monster
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Fourteen years ago, when singer Chizz Chizem began her musical journey while residing in Mandeville, she always hoped that one day her big break would come.
With two recent releases namely Only You and Nite Monster (both released last December), the two dealing with matters of the heart, the singer is optimistic that her breakthrough on the music scene is just a matter of time.
“I’ve been putting in the work, doing the necessary networking, honing my craft and improving on my songwriting capabilities. The feedback that I have been getting from these two songs have given me the motivation to continue on this journey,” Chizz Chizem told Observer Online on Friday.
Now residing in Cincinnati, Ohio in the United States, Chizz Chizem says a very small but united reggae scene is in full bloom.
“Jamaicans are everywhere and the reggae scene is relatively small, but it is thriving. I have been building a fan base for my music since I got here and I am seeing the benefits of my efforts,” she said while noting, “I have an EP that I am completing so there will be a body of work for the fans to listen to.”
Citing the need to create a project that will appeal to everyone, Chizz Chizem is putting in the work with her engineer Mac Niff.
“Mac Niff is creating the beats and handling the recording and mixing of the songs. I feel this is going to be a worthwhile project that everyone can listen to,” said Chizz Chizem.
Chizz Chizem whose real name is Shanet Chisholm, made her debut in 2012 with the song Struggles, which was produced by Ralston Barrett.
