WATCH: Five-year-old injured in Greenvale, Manchester accident
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A five-year-old girl has been admitted to hospital in serious condition after she was hit by a car in her community, Greenvale.
Relatives say the child had just returned from school and was attempting to cross a roadway on Bethel Street in Greenvale when she was hit by the car.
The incident reportedly happened midafternoon on Friday.
The child was rushed to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where doctors ordered an immediate X-ray and a CT scan at nearby facilities including Hargreaves Memorial Hospital.
Relatives huddled together at Hargreaves Memorial as they awaited an update.
Up to 6:00 pm the child was admitted at the neighbouring Mandeville Regional Hospital.
Relatives say they have appealed to political representatives for more speed bumps in the area.
“We need to get some more sleeping police. Let them creep and can’t speed, because right now me angry, it could be my daughter,” said a relative of the child.
Police have since questioned the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident.
