81 road users killed during 4th quarter of 2025 says ITA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Eighty-one people were killed in 68 fatal crashes during the fourth quarter of 2025 between October and December, according to the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).
The bread basket parish of St Elizabeth was next with 12 fatalities, followed by St Ann with nine. Manchester and Westmoreland each recorded seven fatalities during the period, while St Thomas and St James had four each.
The safest parish during the quarter under review was Portland with zero fatalities.
Significantly, fatalities decreased by six per cent and fatal crashes were down 11 per cent in the 2025 quarter when compared to prior year.
The ITA said motorcyclists accounted for 28 deaths or 35 per cent of all fatalities, a 13 per cent reduction when compared to the similar period in 2024.
Private motor vehicle drivers accounted for 20 per cent or 16 fatalities, an increase seven per cent when compared to the 2024 quarter, and pedestrians accounted for 19 per cent or 15 fatalities during the period, an increase of seven per cent when compared to 2024.
Overall, males accounted for 85 per cent of the deaths during the quarter and females accounted for 15 per cent.
Combined, vulnerable road users – pillion passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians and pedalcyclists – accounted for 57 per cent of the fatalities during the review period.
