One shell casing, lots of trouble
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Itafa Marzouca of Paradise Rowe, St James, found himself in the dock at the parish court on Wednesday, facing a charge of unauthorised possession of ammunition before Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton.
The case stems from his alleged possession of one metal shell casing left over after a gun had been fired.
Court records indicate that a police team was patrolling Orange Street in Montego Bay on January 5 when they noticed Marzouca acting nervously and in what was described as a “timid” manner.
The allegations are that as officers approached, he attempted to flee, but the team quickly intercepted him and conducted a search.
The search allegedly revealed a 9mm spent casing tucked inside a bag Marzouca had slung around his neck. When questioned about the casing Marzouca told officers he had found it earlier in Westgate Hills and intended to show it to friends.
Following the discovery, Marzouca was taken to Barnett Street Police Station where he was formally charged with unauthorised possession of ammunition.
Judge Fairclough-Hylton, noting the seriousness of the charge, remanded Marzouca in custody and set January 28 as the date to revisit the issue of bail.
