‘Bunny’ Shaw pushes Manchester City further ahead in Women’s Super League
Jamaican striker Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw found the net in the 86th minute on Sunday to secure Manchester City’s victory over the London City Lionesses in the Women’s Super League.
Shaw’s late goal now pushes Manchester City nine points clear at the top of the WSL table according to a BBC Sport report.
The report credited Shaw for capitalising on a loose ball in the box, scoring into the empty net.
It brought the score to 2-1 in City’s favour and meant a 12th consecutive win for the team that has been comfortably leading the league.
Manchester City had scored first in the 11th minute before London City’s response came from Isobel Goodwin who scored in the second half of what the report says was their first home league outing under new head coach Eder Maestre.
The report said while Manchester City boss Andree Jeglertz has urged his players to remain humble, defending WSL champions Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor said the title has “probably gone” for her side.
The two teams face off next Sunday and if Manchester City win, that would put them 12 points clear of Chelsea.
“There are a lot of games left. All teams will find different ways to challenge us. It’s a lot of games,” the report quoted Jeglertz.
“This situation is fantastic for the team and for me also, because we deserve it.
“We have done a great season so far we just need to keep on going and be humble in this situation, and keep doing what we have done so far,” he said.
