Shaquena Foote second in 400m at New Mexico meet
Jamaica’s Shaquena Foote ran a fast 51.54 seconds to place second in the women’s 400m on Saturday’s second day of the Dr Martin Luther King Jnr Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico.
The time was Foote’s second-fastest 400m indoors after she ran a San Diego State record 51.48 seconds in February 2025. Her time saw her take over second place in the NCAA rankings.
Meanwhile, Machaeda Linton of Texas A&M University won the women’s 60m final at the Ted Nelson Invitational at Texas A&M, equalling her personal best 7.32 seconds. Linton, who transferred from Louisiana State, was also fourth in the women’s long jump with a best of 5.80m.
World Championships relay silver medallist Kemba Nelson won the Women’s Olympic Development 60m final in 7.39 seconds.
Kimar Farquharson was third in the men’s 400m in 46.64 seconds while Altwayne Bedward was also third in the men’s shot put with 16.45m.
Former Kansas State jumper Kavian Kerr of the University of Nebraska won the men’s long jump at the Mark Colligan Memorial at Nebraska with a season’s best 7.56m. Kerr overtook Boise States’ Raekwon Weatherspoon who led after the fourth round with 7.31m.
KeSean-Jordan Rhooms of Morgan State was third in the men’s triple jump with 14.15m at the Virginia Military Institute Invitation and his teammate, Jayla-Shae Wright, was fourth in the women’s high jump, equaling her personal best 1.55m.
