Waterhouse upset Mt Pleasant, leaders Montego Bay beat Chapelton in JPL
ST ANN, Jamaica – Waterhouse FC scored an upset 1-0 win over Caribbean Cup champions Mount Pleasant FA at Drax Hall to highlight Sunday’s 20th round of matches in the Jamaica Premier League.
Waterhouse, who were winning back-to-back games for the first time this season, handed Mount Pleasant FA their second loss.
Also on Sunday, leaders Montego Bay United increased their advantage to seven points after beating Chapelton Maroons 2-0 at Jarrett Park; Tivoli Gardens came from behind to beat defending champions Cavalier 2-1 at Stadium East; Dunbeholden FC spanked Harbour View 4-2; and the games between Treasure Beach and Arnett Gardens, and Molynes United and Spanish Town Police, both ended in 1-1 scorelines.
Nerron Barrow’s looping left footer from the right side of the Mount Pleasant FC 18 yards box sailed high into the top left hand corner of the goal in the 25th minute, giving Waterhouse their first win over the St Ann team since the 2022-23 season.
At Jarrett Park, Nashordo Gibbs gave Montego Bay an early lead when he scored in the third minute while Jourdain Fletcher scored his league leading 12th goal in the 77th minute to secure all three points from Chapelton.
Cavalier took the lead against Tivoli Gardens when goalkeeper Nathaniel Francis dropped a failed clearance into his own goal in the 82nd minute. However, Nickalia Fuller restored parity two minutes later with a stunning freekick from about 23 yards out on the right hand side that flew into the top left hand corner of the goal.
Tivoli completed the comeback win when substitute Dayne Ewen scored from a goal mouth melee from less than two yards out three minutes into time added.
Damion Binns scored a double for Dunbeholden FC as they snapped a four-game winless run to beat Harbour View 4-2.
It was the second straight game that Harbour View were conceding four goals as Dunbeholden led 3-0 at half time with goals from Odean Pennycooke in the 15th minute, Fabion McCarthy in the 25th minute and Binns in the 35th minute. Geo Headley came off the bench to score for Harbour View in the 53rd minute but Binns completed his double when he scored in the 66th minute. Another substitute, Shareef Ricketts scored a second goal for Harbour View when he netted in time added on at the end of the second half.
Racing United gave up a first half lead as Portmore United rallied for a point in a game between teams separated by two points and battling for second place.
Nickyle Ellis gave Racing the lead in the 33rd minute before Tyrique Ximines equalised in the 64th minute.
Treasure Beach, fresh from their comeback 4-3 win over Harbour View on Thursday, came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Arnett Gardens.
Jamone Shepherd scored the opening goal for Arnett Gardens in the 24th minute, with Nicholas Lawrence earning a point for Treasure Beach when he scored in the 40th minute.
Molynes United missed a chance to move up the tables after they were held 1-1 by last placed Spanish Town Police FC, after taking the lead in the 12th minute through Marlon Pennycooke.
Devontay Ricketts scored in the 45th minute for Spanish Town as they ended a four-games losing skid.
