Garbage truck destroyed by fire in Manchester
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — Fire engulfed a garbage truck near the Martin Hill’s dump in Manchester Sunday night, destroying the unit.
Head of the Manchester Fire Department Superintendent Emrick Needham confirmed that firefighters responded to the fire.
However, up to midafternoon on Monday, he said, there was still fire among the solid waste inside the compactor of the truck.
“There is a fire with the garbage truck on the main road. We are trying to make some connections to see how best we can deal with it… From last night the cab was burnt. However, in the compactor there is now garbage that is burning,” he said.
He said no one was injured during the incident.
Regional Director at Southern Parks and Markets (SPM) Waste Management told Observer Online that the garbage truck was being operated privately.
