Pocket Rocket Foundation gears up for 10th annual ‘Peace Through Sports’ six-a-side football competition
The Pocket Rocket Foundation will host the 10th staging of its Six-A-Side Peace Through Sports Football Competition, with the opening ceremony scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Red Stripe Sports Complex in Kingston.
The highly anticipated competition will begin with an opening ceremony and dress parade, featuring 20 community-based teams ready to compete for bragging rights and major prizes. Matches will be played every Saturday and Sunday over a six-week period, culminating in the grand finale on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Admission is free to the public.
The 2026 staging marks the foundation’s return to the field following the postponement of the tournament in 2025 due to Hurricane Melissa. It follows the 2024 competition, which saw first-time entrants Friends for Real, a community football team from Olympic Gardens, capture the championship after an unbeaten run.
Founder and chairperson of the Pocket Rocket Foundation Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said the initiative continues to reflect the organisation’s mission of promoting unity and empowerment through sport.
“As we mark 10 years of Peace Through Sports, we are reminded of the powerful role football plays in bringing communities together,” Fraser-Pryce said. “This competition is about more than winning. It’s about discipline, teamwork, and creating spaces where respect and unity can grow. Seeing the relationships formed and the progress made each year makes this work truly meaningful.”
Dr Jermaine McCalpin, executive director of the Pocket Rocket Foundation, echoed her sentiments, noting that the competition has become a staple event on the community sports calendar.
“This year’s edition is especially significant, as it celebrates a decade of fostering peace through engagement and camaraderie. We’re grateful to our long-standing partners and sponsors whose support allows us to continue providing a safe and positive space for men from diverse backgrounds to come together in the spirit of football.”
Teams will be grouped into five zones and will compete in a round-robin format. The top team from each zone, along with the best runners-up, will advance to the knockout stages. Prizes will be awarded for Most Valuable Player, Top Goal Scorer, Best Defender, and Most Disciplined Team, alongside cash awards and trophies for the top three finishers.
The 2026 competition is made possible through the support of title sponsor Tank-Weld Group through their Rymax Lubricants brand, alongside NIKE, GraceKennedy, 876 Spring Water, Gatorade, FESGAS, and Sanmerna Paper Products Limited.
