‘Take up space at the table’
Women encouraged to bloom, lead, and find their purpose at 2026 All Woman Vision Board event
“TAKE full responsibility for what you have not achieved.” This was the charge given to women attending the third annual Jamaica Observer All Woman Vision Board event Sunday, by attorney-at-law and CEO of Prescient Consulting Services Rochelle Cameron, as the women prepared to create their 2026 vision boards.
Cameron, the main speaker at the event, held under the theme ‘Bloom with Purpose’, cautioned the women not to worry about other people’s dreams, but to chart their own.
“Some of us have some long-time things down in wi belly bottom, you know dem long time dream deh? But sometimes you think you are too old, you have too many children, your husband is not nice enough or too nice, we come up with all kinds of excuses… Today we take full responsibility for what we have not achieved, but we also know there is no expiry on it.”
Scores of women gathered for the event at AC Hotel, Kingston, that saw them being treated to life lessons from Cameron, as well as goodies and inspirational activities from sponsors including JMMB, All Wrapped Up Jamaica, Body Forte Ltd, Harbour Wines and Spirits, and Trade Winds Citrus Ltd.
The women-focused event was conceptualised by the Observer team to encourage women to slow down at the beginning of the year, and visualise their dreams, leaving with a renewed sense of direction.
“Vision boards are not at the end of the day art and craft, there are a lot of things that are art and craft, not this,” Cameron said, as the women set clear intentions and thoughtfully mapped out their goals for the year ahead.
“This is you promising today that, ‘I am taking charge of my life and I am taking charge of the vision of where I want to go’. Today we are going to talk about how we think big, [and] some of the limiting thoughts that we have because we don’t want to dream the dream because we are worried about the resources.”
Underscoring the importance of conquering fear when chasing goals, Cameron urged the women to assert their own presence.
“What you fear most has no power, it’s your fear that has the power,“ she said. ”Take up space at the table, today spread out, make your presence felt. One of the things about taking up space, it doesn’t mean being loud. What I am saying to you, is today we are not smalling up ourselves.“
Cameron, who highlighted that she has been a lawyer for 28 years, shared her personal experience of transition.
“I worked in corporate Jamaica for several years, and at the point that I was technically at the top of my game, I made a very big decision to step out and do my own business. Stepping out meant I was going to take a very big bet on myself. My company (Prescient Consulting Services) is now six years old,” she said.
Cameron’s speech, packed with meaningful insights and advice, was well received by many. Women were spotted nodding, applauding and cheering whenever a particular message resonated with them.
Paired with empowering guidance, the ladies were also treated to various games, prizes and surprises by sponsors who came onboard to support the event.
“This is our first time sponsoring and participating in the event and we are pretty pleased with the outcome. It was well organised, a lot of sponsors showed up that we would have wanted to collaborate with, so this is definitely the great event that started the year for us,” shared Anngnita Neil from All Wrapped up Ja.
Suzanne Hendricks, senior sponsorship and events officer at the JMMB Group, shared the same sentiments.
“When we received this sponsorship in late November, early December, we were happy to support
The Jamaica Observer All Woman Vision Board event. It really aligns with who we are in empowering women. We understand what it means to lead with true determination, vision and purpose. So this was a right fit for us,” she explained.
Other sponsors were Wendy’s Jamaica, AC Hotel, Kingston, FFK Insurance, The Face Place Ja, Gabby Glam Co, Le Champ Cosmetics, Shikima Hinds Events & Concierge, Pizza Hut Jamaica, T Geddes Grant, Ayrtons Distributors, Fromage, and Woman’s Touch.
