Chuck Fenda links up with Dolly Don for ‘Weh Me Like’

Emerging dancehall sensation Dolly Don is ecstatic at the great reaction to her latest single, Weh Me Like, a collaboration with reggae star Chuck Fenda.

The song, recorded years ago, was remixed and leaked on superstar producer Rvssian’s Recovery rhythm, generating a major and immediate buzz among younger fans online.

“The collaboration with Chuck Fenda came together organically through creative alignment and shared values. Chuck Fenda called me and informed me of a riddim he had and thought I would be a good fit for the collab. He showed up to my home studio years ago, and instantly the record was created in the spot…we remixed the song on Rvssian’s riddim and it fit perfectly,” Dolly Don said.

Since the song arrived on the Internet, the response has been overwhelming. Most dancehall fans were impressed and surprised by Chuck Fenda’s contribution on the racy song, as it seemed to contradict his Rastafarian values. This is only the second time that Chuck Fenda has recorded on a pure dancehall rhythm project.

“A lot of industry players called me to ask if it was really me, my phone has been ringing off the hook, people love the song, and I am glad because it shows a level of creativity, a fresh sound with a young hot artiste…clever lyrics, that has been missing in dancehall for a time now,” Chuck Fenda said.

Dolly Don is extremely excited with the huge online response as the track already has several hundred shares, along with feedback from industry greats like Pink Panther and Foota Hype who have done reviews of the song on their online platforms.

“The response has been very encouraging. Listeners have been connecting with the message, the blend of styles, and the collaboration’s overall energy. There’s been strong interest and positive feedback, particularly from fans who appreciate authentic and uplifting music. This type of response was an eye-opener and starting to become a life-changing experience,” an enthusiastic Dolly Don said.

“To see legends or prominent figures of the industry say your name, share your videos or music, tell the world things like “Authorize this now” lol it’s truly amazing,” she added.

The overwhelming response has fast-tracked plans to shoot a music video for the song.

“We are currently working on getting the video together. Creative planning and pre-production are underway, and filming will move forward once all remaining approvals are finalized, who knows maybe Miami, maybe Atlanta, or even home Jamaica,” Dolly Don said.

Chuck Fenda has a knack for recording hit songs with female artistes. He scored a 2007 hit, Are You Coming Over Tonight, with Cherine Anderson.

He reunited with Anderson again in 2023 for the song Call on Me, featured on Fenda’s album Eternal Fire. Chuck Fenda also recorded a popular collaboration with dancehall starlet Jada Kingdom.

Given the early response, Chuck Fenda may have done it again. Still, the single’s future success could hinge on approval from the track’s producer, Rvssian.

“At this time, Rvssian has not yet given final approval. Discussions are ongoing with my marketers and PR’s on getting the song to his attention, and to ensure all approvals and clearances will be handled correctly when that time comes,” she said.
