Hundreds of flood warnings in effect as UK weathers Storm Chandra
LONDON, United Kingdom — Following extreme wind and rain from Storm Chandra on Tuesday, at least one person has been killed, and more than 200 flood alerts are now in effect for residents of the United Kingdom (UK).
A report from the BBC indicated that a truck driver died in Hampshire in Britain when his vehicle crashed into a river, while scenes from the UK showed extreme flooding, with cars abandoned and shops and homes inundated with water.
The report indicated that Chandra, which is the third named storm in the UK this year, arrived on the heels of Storm Ingrid, which had also caused intense rain days earlier. It meant that the rain from Chandra fell on saturated ground.
At least one residential area, the Iford Bridge Home Park in Dorset, has been evacuated due to flood risk that could cause a ‘danger to life’, the report indicated.
On Wednesday, even though less rain is forecast, 87 flood warnings were still in effect for areas of Britain where flooding is expected, and 207 flood alerts, where flooding is possible. Similar alerts are in place for Wales and Scotland.
