Jamaica, Ghana connection deepens

MINISTER of state in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce Delano Seiveright on Tuesday hosted an official courtesy call with a delegation from the National Lottery Authority of Ghana, facilitated by Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL), as Jamaica and Ghana continue to strengthen business-to-business ties, trade, and investment collaboration as well as high-value services exports.

Seiveright commended SVL for “boldly spreading its wings into Africa, exporting Jamaican technical expertise and operational excellence, and positioning Jamaica as a trusted global business partner while opening new commercial pathways for Jamaican enterprise”.

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Ghana Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that his Government will fully sponsor the erection of a monument at the Seville Heritage Park in St Ann to commemorate African solidarity and shared history.

Ablakwa, who was on a three-day official visit to Jamaica, announced that representatives of Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defence will collaborate with local authorities to advance the monument project.

He made the announcement during a welcome reception and tour at the Seville Great House on Sunday as part of the official visit to the island by a Ghanaian delegation.

Ablakwa said the Seville Great House holds deep historical and spiritual significance, describing it as a place where Africans once endured unimaginable suffering, but to which descendants have now returned with dignity and ownership.

“Some centuries ago we would not have been allowed anywhere near these walls, but today we have returned as owners of this building, as owners of this land, and as the truthful and rightful custodians of every possession here,” said Ablakwa.

He described the visit to the Seville Heritage Park as a deeply spiritual experience rather than a routine diplomatic engagement, noting the powerful sense of reconnection between Africa and its diaspora.
