Powell moves to third in Formula Regional Middle East Championship
The Jamaica Millenium Motoring Club commends a competitive second race weekend for Jamaican rising star driver Alex Powell in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship, highlighted by a podium finish and a solid points haul despite mixed fortunes across the three races.
Powell showed strong pace from the outset during qualifying, securing fourth place in both qualifying sessions, placing him firmly in contention for podium results.
That potential was realised in Race 1, during which Powell delivered a controlled and consistent drive to finish third, earning his first podium of the weekend.
The result placed him P10 on the grid for Race 2, setting up a recovery drive through the field.
Race 2 proved challenging, as an on-track incident resulted in Powell losing positions and receiving a five-second time penalty, which contributed to a non-scoring finish.
Powell responded positively in Race 3, producing a composed drive to finish sixth and close out the weekend on a stronger note. Summarising the weekend, his racing team noted: “[It was] not the end [to] the weekend we were hoping for. An incident with Sano in Race 2 caused Alex to lose positions and gain a five-second penalty, but the P6 in Race 3 means that Alex leaves this weekend P3 in the standings. On to Dubai next week!”
Despite the setback in Race 2, Powell’s performances across the weekend have moved him into third place in both the Overall and Rookie Championships, as the Formula Regional Middle East Championship heads to Dubai for the next round.
