Denzel McKenzie leaves Cavalier FC for Chapelton Maroons
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Midfielder Denzel McKenzie has transferred to Chapelton Maroons after only six months at Jamaica Premier League champions Cavalier SC, it was announced on Friday.
Craig Butler, head of Phoenix Academy and technical director of Chapelton Maroons, made the announcement on their Instagram platform on Friday, saying the 19-year-old was “back home with family, the team that loves him, and we are happy to have him back; when you love your players, nothing is good enough.”
Butler said the former Mona High player was developed at the Phoenix Academy, where he stayed for six years, starting at 12 years old.
In the video clip, McKenzie said, “It is a good feeling to go where you are valued.”
McKenzie, who played for Vere United last season, signed with Cavalier SC in July and played in 12 games, starting nine, and scored two goals.
He joins a Chapelton Maroons team that sits eighth in the JPL points table after losing back-to-back games and has only scored 16 goals in 19 games, second worst only to last-placed Spanish Town Police FC.
