Fire forces evacuation at KPH
Eighteen patients and 16 staff members had to be evacuated from the Accident and Emergency Department at the Kingston Public Hospital on Friday morning after a fire broke out on the first floor of the facility.
Observer Online sources say the fire started shortly before 5 am and the fire brigade was summoned.
Staff at the hospital managed to put out the blaze before the fire fighters arrived. However, a major smoke nuisance forced the evacuation of the people.
The all clear was given for people to return to the area approximately 6.30.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
