Market Bag: Shopping with Chef Lumley in Papine, pepper prices ‘hot’
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – Food prices were higher at the Papine Market compared to our shopping trip at the Linstead Market last week.
Scotch bonnet and sweet pepper prices were especially high at $800 and $1,000 a pound respectively.
Among the other prices, tomatoes were going for $300 a pound; Irish potato, $350; escallion, $400; onion, $400; carrot, $300; ginger, $600; and yam, $500.
Meanwhile, ever wondered what’s in a chef’s market bag? You’re about to find out in an all-new Market Bag with special guest, Executive Chef Brian Lumley.
Chef Lumley, among Jamaica’s best-trained culinarians, dished up to Market Bag host Carlysia Ramdeen his must-have ingredients, how he’s managing with the post-Hurricane Melissa shortage of some key inputs, and other insights.
Tune in to Market Bag for our interview with Chef Lumley as well as a full rundown of the prices.
