Mello Vibes celebrates 25 this Saturday
Since its first staging back in 2001, retro party series Mello Vibes has morphed into one of the most anticipated events of its kind on the entertainment calendar.
With multiple stagings each year, Mello Vibes continues to attract a loyal following.
According to promoter Omar Perrin, the 25-year journey has had its highs and lows.
“It’s been an incredible journey… but a rewarding experience bringing quality entertainment to our patrons,” Perrin told the Jamaica Observer’s Splash earlier this week.
Top-flight DJs Liquid, Bad Gyal Marie, Marc Chin and Little Richie, have been commissioned to spin the hits from the 1980s to the 2000s, keeping patrons entertained, for the 25th anniversary set to be celebrated this Saturday, January 31 at Mas Camp.
Perrin shared that the highlight over the past 25 years has been the growth of the series.
“The highlight over the 25 years has been watching the execution and growth of an idea. Bringing new experiences to the Jamaican landscape such as executing our ‘two venues, one event, one night’ in 2024. We also brought a dancehall soca theme to the retro event,” he said.
And what can attendees expect on Saturday night?
“Patrons can expect the usual nonstop dancing energy, drink specials, giveaways, hits after hits from the top DJs, and, of course, a little extra dazzle dazzle that they will have to come out to see,” Perrin disclosed.
Long-standing sponsor Smirnoff will be making a presentation to the promoters.
Nadine Thomas Hylton, brand manager for Smirnoff, explained the idea behind this move.
“Mello Vibes is not just an event; it’s a cultural institution. For a quarter of a century, it’s been bringing people together through music, energy, and pure Jamaican vibes. It’s one of those parties that generations have grown up with, and to still see it thriving says everything about its relevance and impact. Our award is to cement the importance of this connection and to commend the promoters for keeping that alive,” Thomas Hylton told Splash.
“Smirnoff has been part of the Mello Vibes story from the very beginning. We were the first official sponsor back in 2001, and over the years, alongside Guinness, we’ve grown with the brand… This has never been about just showing up, it’s always been about real connection. Saturday is about celebrating the journey,” said Thomas Hylton.
