MONTEGO BAY, St James — Daniel Farquharson, accused of breaking into a woman’s bedroom and stealing cash and groceries, has been granted bail after a previous delay over his living arrangements.

Farquharson appeared before Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton at the St James Parish Court on Wednesday, facing charges of housebreaking and larceny.

At a prior hearing, the court had warned Farquharson’s brother that bail would only be considered if the defendant relocated. While alternative housing was arranged, his release stalled when the intended host failed to appear in court — a situation finally resolved on Wednesday.

With the obstacle cleared, Judge Fairclough-Hylton granted bail in the sum of $200,000 with up to three sureties. Conditions include reporting to a designated police station on specified days and a strict curfew from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Farquharson is scheduled to return to court on March 11 for trial.

The alleged incident occurred just before 5:30 am on December 28, 2025. The complainant, while on her verandah, reportedly heard her bedroom door slam shut. She claims she saw a man inside holding a cellphone flashlight and rifling through her room. She identified him as Farquharson. When she called out, he allegedly jumped through the window and fled to the back of the property with an accomplice.

Among the items reportedly stolen were $8,000 in cash, a red shopping bag containing Supligen, Ensure, and chocolate.

Police were summoned again two days later after the complainant heard noises at her window. Reporting the December 28 break-in, she identified Farquharson as the intruder, leading to his arrest.
