Duhaney Park FC appoints Leijeigh Williams as technical director
SPORT journalist and commentator Leijeigh Williams has entered a new chapter of his career after being appointed technical director of Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Super League outfit Duhaney Park FC.
Williams, who became a familiar voice to local audiences as a key member of the SportsMax commentary team before its closure, was officially announced in the role on Tuesday after reaching an agreement with the club.
Speaking exclusively with the Sunday Observer, Williams said the appointment represents the fulfilment of a long-held ambition.
“This appointment means a great deal,” Williams said. “I have always had the aspiration of being a coach, even before getting into sports media. I think about the game like a coach — even when I’m doing my analysis — so this opportunity means a lot to me.”
Williams also cited the club’s long-term vision as a major factor in his decision to accept the role.
“The ownership made it clear that they wanted to go in the direction of youth, and that is what enticed me. They also said they would be patient with me, especially given that this is my first job in this capacity,” he said.
Highlighting what he describes as Duhaney Park FC’s rich footballing legacy, Williams said the club’s history and talent pipeline align closely with his philosophy.
“This club is rich in history, not only in terms of the team itself but also the area,” he said. “Players like Warner Brown, the most expensive player in Caribbean history; Shaniel Thomas, who has represented Jamaica; and all the other young players coming through — that is what struck me about Duhaney Park and reflects the vision of the club going forward.”
While the immediate objective is stability, Williams made it clear that ambition remains high.
“My immediate goal is consolidation this season and then pushing on, trying to get into the Jamaica Premier League,” he said. “I hate to lose, so even though consolidation is the aim this season I am still trying to go as far as possible.”
Outlining his responsibilities, Williams said his role will extend well beyond the technical aspects of the game.
“As technical director my responsibilities will include coaching duties; leading training sessions; and overseeing the psychological, physical and mental aspects of the players while also helping to put a clear structure in place for how the club wants to move forward,” Williams said.
He is confident that, in time, the club’s identity will become evident to the wider football public.
“Duhaney Park is known for playing attractive football, and I believe that in time we will show that to the rest of Jamaica when we eventually make it to the Jamaica Premier League,” he said.
