Gospel icon Carlene Davis conferred with UTech honorary degree
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Gospel artiste Dr Carlene Davis-Cowan has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) by the University of Technology (UTech).
The distinguished honour was conferred during UTech’s graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025, held on Sunday. The ceremony was originally scheduled for November but was postponed due to Hurricane Melissa.
The university recognised Davis-Cowan for her exceptional contributions to music, ministry and humanitarian service. She already holds a PhD in pastoral counselling.
Davis-Cowan boasts an extensive and influential discography, including acclaimed albums such as Paradise (produced by Olivia “Babsy” Grange), Yesterday Today Forever, Taking Control, Carlene Davis (Dial My Number), No Bias, Songs of Freedom, and Echoes of Love, among others.
Her body of work has produced several chart-topping and enduring singles, including Going Down to Paradise, It Must Be Love, Like Old Friends Do, Winnie Mandela, and Welcome Home Mr Mandela.
