Police hunt gunmen after late-night shoot-out in St Thomas

ST THOMAS, Jamaica — Police in St Thomas are searching for several men who allegedly opened fire on cops during a late-night pursuit on Thursday.

Reports indicate that about 10:20 pm, members of the St Thomas Highway Patrol were on duty in the Yallahs area when they observed a white Toyota Noah travelling at high speed along Albion Main Road. The lawmen reportedly signalled the driver to stop, but the vehicle accelerated.

A chase ensued, with police again instructing the driver to pull over. On reaching White Horses, the driver reportedly turned onto Stanmore Lane, where three men exited the vehicle and opened fire on the police team, prompting them to return fire.

The men then reportedly fled on foot, escaping into a forestry area along Hamburg Lane and Stanmore Lane in the White Horses community.

The police said no cops were injured, but a service vehicle sustained gunshot damage.
