Shaw scores as City extend WSL lead

Manchester City defeated reigning champions Chelsea in a 5-1 victory in the Barclays Women’s Super League at the Etihad Stadium in England on Sunday.

According to a Sky Sports report, City’s Kerolin Nicoli scored the opener from the second phase of a corner, deflecting a shot beyond Hannah Hampton via Ellie Carpenter.

The second goal reportedly followed a turnover in midfield, seized upon by Viv Miedema, who fed Khadija Bunny Shaw to score her 107th goal in 125 City appearances.

The report said Kerolin scored twice more after the break to complete her hat-trick. Miedema then nodded Kerstin Casparij’s corner home after Alyssa Thompson had scored a well-taken consolation.

The win places City 11 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United.
