Williams and Blake seek first Millrose Games win
WORLD leader Danielle Williams and former World Indoor medallist Ackeem Blake will both be seeking their first victories at the Millrose Games when they line up in their respective events at today’s 118th staging of the World Athletics Continental Indoor Tour Gold meet at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City.
Both athletes last competed at the meet in 2024 and had to settle for runner-up finishes, with Williams second in the women’s 60m hurdles and Blake third in the men’s 60m.
Seven Jamaicans are scheduled to compete at the meet, the second stop on the World Athletics Continental Indoor Tour Gold series, as part of their preparations for the World Athletics Indoor Championships to be held in Poland in March.
Williams, a two-time World Athletics champion, is unbeaten in three indoor races so far this season and clocked 7.87 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Meeting in Boston last weekend. She will face Olympic bronze medallist Megan Simmonds and Oneka Wilson in the women’s 60m hurdles.
Williams has previously won at The Armory, placing first at the 2022 World Tune-Up, a preparatory event for the World Indoor Championships.
Blake, who also won at the New Balance meet, is set to contest the men’s 60m while 200m specialist Bryan Levell will also be in action. Kemba Nelson is entered in the women’s 60m.
Natoya Goule-Toppin will also compete, lining up in the women’s 1000m.
