E-Dee returns to rapping with ‘Pretty Girl’
Although he has collaborated with American acts like Cam’ron and Jim Jones, E-Dee’s hip hop credentials have been overshadowed by his dancehall-reggae recordings. He returns to rapping on Pretty Girl, a song released in December.
The up-tempo track is produced by Jahsee for Clarendon Records, a company owned by the Los Angeles-based E-Dee. He felt it was time for a change of pace after a series of dancehall releases.
“My signature style has always been fusing dancehall and hip-hop, going all the way back to my first album, Ja 2 La 2 The World. Now, I’m adding a touch of Afrobeats to the mix to refresh the vibe and keep things evolving,” E-Dee told Observer Online.
Pretty Girl is the follow-up to We A Rebuild, a somber song inspired by the resilience Jamaicans showed in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa which struck their country on October 28.
We A Rebuild is also a Clarendon Records production. E-Dee launched the label just over one year ago as he moved more into producing his own material. To date, it has released over 20 songs, an EP and compilation album.
Originally from Toll Gate, Clarendon, E-Dee has lived in Los Angeles for many years. In addition to recording a handful of albums, EPs and numerous singles, he has etched a name as an actor in independent films.
The biographical Out The Gate, Temperature Rising and Mother In Law are some of the movies in which he has appeared.
