Herbert Morrison advance in ISSA Rural Area Basketball quarters
Herbert Morrison Technical High School made it two wins in a row in the quarter-finals of the ISSA Rural Area Basketball Competition after defeating Munro College and Glenmuir High in the Under-16 and Under-19 sections, respectively, on Monday.
The St James-based school had earlier beaten Old Harbour High and Garvey Maceo High in their opening games and will continue quarter-final action on Friday when they play rescheduled matches against Knox College and Holmwood Technical. Those games were rained out last week.
On Monday, Herbert Morrison cruised past Munro College 102-30 in the Under-16 encounter before securing a 52-33 victory over Glenmuir High in the Under-19 section.
In the Under-16 game, the Montego Bay school led from start to finish, opening up a 22-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter. They extended the lead to 40-16 at half-time and 63-24 after three quarters.
Shemar Russell recorded a double-double for Herbert Morrison with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Rafael Stephenson led all scorers with 30 points and added eight rebounds. Trey Turner also contributed 14 points.
Sadre Gordon led Munro College with 16 points and eight rebounds.
In the Under-19 contest, Joshua Ferguson led Herbert Morrison with 15 points, while Ryan Jurdine added 10. Herbert Morrison dominated early, leading 20-5 after the first quarter, 37-14 at half-time, and 43-24 after three quarters.
Deshaun Smith topped Glenmuir High with a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds.
