Several communities without power due to cold front winds
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Strong winds associated with a cold front have caused power outages in sections of several parishes, with restoration efforts now underway.
In a release on Tuesday, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) said the adverse weather conditions have affected electricity supply in parts of Hanover, St Ann, the Corporate Area, St Catherine and Clarendon.
The company noted that it is making every effort to restore service to affected customers as quickly as possible.
Chief Operating Officer, Lance Becca, said emergency response teams were already in the field and working where conditions allowed. He added that crews worked late into Monday night, restoring electricity to customers and have since made significant progress.
JPS is urging members of the public to exercise caution, particularly around fallen or broken wires. Customers are also being encouraged to report outages or hazards using the JPS mobile app, the company’s social media pages @myjpsonline, or by contacting the customer care centre at 888-CALL-JPS, 888-225-5577 (Flow) or 888-935-5577 (Digicel).
