Cavalier SC extend losing slump after 1-0 loss to Mt Pleasant FA
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Defending champions Cavalier SC’s slump continued on Wednesday after they lost a fourth straight game, beaten 1-0 by Mount Pleasant FA in their rescheduled second round Jamaica Premier League game played at Stadium East.
A sublime first half free-kick from Gadail Irving was the difference in the game as Mount Pleasant FA moved past Portmore United into third place, on goal-difference, both teams on 36 points with the St Ann-based team still having three games in hand.
Mount Pleasant FA are two points behind second-placed Racing United.
It was Cavalier SC’s 10th loss of the season from 20 games, matching their total number of losses from the last two seasons as they remained in eighth place on 26 points, still a point outside the play-off places.
Mount Pleasant FA won for the second time over Cavalier SC this season, their third straight and dominated the action on Wednesday but had only Irving’s free kick to show for their efforts.
Irving lashed the kick, taken from just outside the 18-yard area on the left side, into the far corner of the Cavalier SC goal, past goalkeeper Demelcio Fer.
It was also a third straight 1-0 loss for Cavalier SC.
Another rescheduled game is set to be played on Thursday, Dunbeholden FC taking on last placed Spanish Town Police, in a St Catherine derby at Dunbeholden sports complex.
